It is the only thing
Getting into residency isn't everything;
1.How to answer a tell me about your weaknesses question
2.Phone Interview Tips
So you started planning ahead for occasions where an opportunity to speak is expected by anticipating questions and preparing answers. This has made it a lot easier to discuss your patients because you are confident of what you are saying. You have noticed that the more prepared you are the better the presentation is.  Now it is part of your routine.

Organization
You used to procrastinate a lot, but you have learnt that by writing things down and keeping a list, nothing is left off and it actually helps you finish scheduled activities on time. Keeping a calendar and writing your schedules on it makes sure that you do not miss appointments.

Strengths
On the flipside they might ask you what your strengths are. Don’t say you are a workaholic. Everybody thinks of themselves as a workaholic, so that will not make much of an impact.

Anything you use as strength, give at least one example of an occasion where your positive attribute carried the day. For example saying that you get along easily with people, could be further expanded as you work well as a team where everybody is expected to pull their own weight to see a task through. When a team mate had to take time off for some unexpected personal issues, you volunteered to take on her responsibilities in addition to your own to make sure that the work continued uninterrupted.

If you run out of strengths to list, grab your personal statement and CV and look through them, especially the personal statement, you will be surprised about the great positive things you will discover abour yourself there.

Phone Interview Tips

Sometimes interviews are conducted over the phone for several reasons which could range from as a screening tool before the main interview, to cases where the candidate cannot make it for a face to face interview or as a follow-up to an earlier interview. However be prepared to answer questions about yourself and also about your experiences.

A Good strategy that will guide you as your prepare for a phone interview include:-

  • Take it seriously. Find a quiet room where you will not be interrupted
  • Keep all your documents in front of you e.g. personal statement, CAF etc,
  • Have a pen and blank paper in front of you to take quick notes.
  • Prepare answers to most likely questions they might ask you and make a list of your response as talking points so that your responses will be smooth and uninterrupted. Such questions include things like tell me about yourself, why do you like this specialty, what are you career plans for the next 10 years
  • Prepare a list of questions to ask the interviewer. Questions like, do all their residents complete their training there? Are they happy?  What is the board pass rate for residents that trained there?  What type of jobs do there residents get after graduating and do they assist them in finding jobs.
  • Do not use your speaker phone. The quality of sound at the other end of the call is not that great.
  • Pick the best part of the day for the interview when you are at your best, sharp and alert.
  • At the end update the interviewer on any new things e.g. lor, completed observerships etc.
  • Thank the person at the end of the interview and ask for when you will get a feed back of the interview. Also tell them you are looking forward to meeting with them.

This is a tricky question. I guess the just want to find out what your response will be. However, never say you do not have any weaknesses.

Before your interview you have to practice on an answer for that question that is at least one weakness that you will have. It is a very common interview question.

Below are some good tips you can use:-

Speaking in public
This is a phobia everybody can relate with. So you can start off by saying that you always shied away from asking questions or responding to questions when in a group. But, as an intern you must present you cases to others.
