Prompt Response To Residency Interview Invitations
Below is a template you can us to respond to an invitation for an interview:-

Dear Mr. ScrambleMD,

I am delighted to receive an invitation for a residency interview at scrammbleMD residency program. I confirm my attendance and would like to schedule the interview for the 5th of December. (Based on the interview date options’ you were provided with)

I look forward to meeting with you and the rest of the interview panel to discuss how I would become an asset to the program, by contributing to the programs efforts in providing excellent healthcare and also learn from the experienced physicians and allied staff that make up the program.

I would need accommodation and transportation in scrambleMD city and I’ll like to know if the program will be providing accommodation; or if I should go ahead and make my own arrangements.

Thanks very much for your time and looking forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Scramble MD

A few days before the interview (2 to 3 days) call the program or send an email to reconfirm the appointment and inquire if they would need extra materials from you. Still go ahead and bring with you a copy of your application materials and any new information like letters of recommendation from a just completed observership or externship.

Programs usually invite more people than they need for interviews. The reason for this is as follows, some people will cancel, some will pre match and some just do not want to go. Once you receive a letter of invitation, endeavor to accept the offer as soon as possible and work it into your schedule.

Send in a RSVP ASAP. Remember once you accept an interview invitation you are obliged to follow through. However, in the event that you cannot make it endeavor to inform them on time to cancel or reschedule.

In one incident, a resident had suddenly dropped out of the program for personal reasons and the hospital needed to fill the spot ASAP. The first residency applicant that came through the door was offered the job to start in December.
